Water

When I walk to the Tibetan Government-in-exile, I see many items worth while to note for my colleagues at Delft University of Technology.

The water distribution is along paths and roads. Here is an example of how the distribution on the last mile takes place.

First the distribution from the main pipe into smaller parts. Note the loss of water!

Then the continuation down the path and following the path to the left.

To ensure water availability at reasonable pressure (think about the differences in altitude), watertanks are installed on rooftops.

Power

Power is distributed overhead. Here a transformer station with the ... are that fuses?

Power is very often interrupted, My guesthouse has a Honda generator that automatically starts when the power disappears. However, the switch to the electrical system of the house tripped off a few times during one of the interruptions.

From the Norbulingo area I spotted the high-voltage "fuses" (the wires are hardly visible) and I made a close-up of the high-voltage switch..

On November 1 the power was cut while I was uploading files to my blog. The Laptop continued on batteries, but Internet was interrupted. That damaged my site. It could not repair the problem before 14 hours after the mishap.

Telecommunications

Telephonelines are overhead to. Here two repairmen trying to resolve a problem in the mess of wires.

Road transportation

Transfer of pebbles from one type of transportation to the other. The truck probably can not take the steep descend tot he roadworks further down the road and the mules have to take the last mile transport.

Somewhere else I note that a well is pushing its water through the (ex)pavement. However, the well may be a leak from the sewer system underneath the pavement.

Here I saw the way rice is transported. I also saw some at the side of the road with broken axles....

A public carrier transports people.....

The rickshaw-stand.

Internal transportation

Three ladies transport the bricks to the works 2 floors deeper than road level. Note that the lady in the foreground carefully places 2 additional bricks on top of the stack already on her head after I have taken the picture!

Also note that in the video in road transportation, two man transport the mortar from the mixer to the place where it is needed in a piece of plastic and ladies are transporting the pebbles (foreground from the left) and sand (background from the right) to the mixer.
